Overview

This beautiful black Awlgripped Bristol 47.7 was custom built for the current owner. The owners have continually maintained this sailboat to the highest standards, having just completed a fresh bottom paint in October, 2012 and detailed to a high standard.

This boat is ideal for coastal or shoal cruising with a 4'11" draft with the centerboard up. The Ted Hood designed Bristol 47.7 has powerful hull lines that are coupled with keel/centerboard design translating into excellent boat speed and is blue water equipped and proven. The vessel is easily handled by two people and is easily viewed in St. Petersburg, FL.

Sailing and rigging equipment include a double spreader rig with Hood Electric Stowway mast, Harken Roller Furling headsail, (2)#46 Lewmar electric winches. Sails include mainsail, 130% genoa, staysail, and whisker pole. All the lines lead back to the cockpit. The boat has a keel with a centerboard that translates to superb boat speed and reliability in heavy seas. The centerboard is lifted with a reel winch on the cabin trunk.

This beautiful sloop is powered by a single 70HP Westerbeke diesel engine, has new fuel tanks, new transmission, new hoses, new fuel pump, etc. The boat has new batteries, new battery charger and an Inverter.

Electronics and navigation equipment include Furuno Radar, integrated Furuno GPS, autopilot, back-up depth sounder, stereo equipment, etc.

The interior is well planned and unparalleled spaciousness for a boat of this size. There is plenty of storage in an abundance of lockers, drawers and shelves for live aboard or long range cruising. The owners also had two large custom built storage lockers built aft of the cockpit for additional gear storage. The joinery is cherry wood and the teak and holly sole shines like a new penny. The lighting and ventilation in the cabin areas are exceptional.

HULL AND DECK

The Bristol has quality construction and the hull is hand laminated solid fiberglass, reinforced in high stress areas. The deck, also of hand laminated solid fiberglass, features a 1/2-inch balsa core for stiffening and a molded nonskid deck surface. The deck is fitted to a recessed flange on the hull and through bolted on 6-inch centers. The hydro dynamically shaped centerboard is constructed of solid fiberglass with steel reinforcing rods for added strength. All chain plates are stainless steel and through bolted to fiberglass knees, which are bonded to the hull. Each chain plate is accessible for routine inspection.

SAILING EQUIPMENT

The keel/centerboard design translate to superb boat speed with increased flexibility depending on water conditions and depth. The boat has an excellent sail area to wetted surface ratio, along with a long waterline, for great boat performance. This boat can comfortably be handled by two people. All lines come back to the center cockpit.

The sails are in very good condition. The Mainsail and 130% Genoa were new in 1998 and used from 1998 to 2001. The owners always remove the sails from July to November each year to protect them from Florida sun. The mainsail is always rolled up in the mast.
